Arrange a Viewing

Mackenzie Thorpe’s ‘Surprise’ is a captivating exploration of life’s dualities, captured in a single, original piece. This mixed media artwork, framed and set on paper, invites viewers into a serene forest scene where humour and whimsy take centre stage. A lone figure stands by a tranquil lake, tethered to an enormous, heart-shaped balloon. The warm hues of autumn leaves and the gentle reflection on the water create a harmonious backdrop, evoking a sense of peace and introspection. Thorpe’s work often delves into the struggles and triumphs of life, and ‘Surprise’ is no exception. It suggests that amidst life’s challenges, moments of joy and love can emerge unexpectedly. This piece would make a delightful addition to any collection, offering both visual beauty and a reminder of life’s tender surprises.

About the Artist

It is fair to say, his early experiences inform his work to this day. Despite struggling at school with undiagnosed dyslexia, his creativity shone through; after a spell working in manual jobs, Mackenzie’s persistence and dedication to art won him a place at the then, Middlesbrough College of Art…
