Introducing Mark Hodgkinson

We are delighted to welcome Mark Hodgkinson to Aura Fine Art.

Mark is a mixed media artist based in Nottingham. He studied graphic design at art college in Leicester, which led to a career as a freelance graphic designer working for design agencies all over the country, and he eventually opened an award-winning creative agency.

During this successful career, Mark decided to return to his original creative passion of pencil drawing and also began experimenting with painting techniques. Although Mark had a leaning towards detailed pencil drawing, he now prefers a more spontaneous expressive mixed media style, rich in colour and contrast. 

Mark’s original artwork is built up of hundreds of digital layers to create the base image for each piece. He then adds it to canvas and over-paints with metallic and gold leaf, finishing with a coat of high gloss glitter resin, which makes the colours ‘pop’ and adds sparkle.

Focusing on icons, Mark is enjoying exploring the powerful feelings of nostalgia that they often evoke within us. Many of these icons inspire and enrich our lives in so many ways and with Mark’s unique interpretations, he brings the joy of ‘their art’ into our homes through ‘his art’. For some, fame can come at a price, and the sadness behind the mask of fame is often depicted by golden tear drops, which can be found in many of the works. Mark is finally realising his ambition of exhibiting his work in galleries across the UK and his reputation as an exciting new artist on the contemporary art scene is growing significantly.
