Introducing David Noalia
We are delighted to present new artist David Noalia to the Aura Fine Art portfolio.
David Noalia is a Spanish artist based in Seville, who is renowned for his signature abstract equestrian paintings. A recurring theme of his compositions is the Andalusian horse which he feels captures the essence of Spain with passion, colour, and drama. Figurative and abstract co-exist in his painterly style, with the former providing the foundations and the latter offering the flair and flamboyant energy that makes his work so exciting. This juxtaposition is in constant flux, offering a sumptuous experience for the senses.

For David, the equestrian theme is universal and creates a perfect vessel to convey emotion. The energy that David captures in his work is intensified through the flashes of colour and the loose brushstrokes that he uses to give the subject a sense of movement, as though the horse was galloping across the canvas. Consequently, a moment in time is not captured, as many artists seek to portray as it is forever in motion, and therefore the moment is a transitory one. Symbolically, the horse represents “movement” and is dominant, whilst the figure is secondary; “I paralyze the image, I focus on one point and deconstruct the snapshot: when you reach the horseman, the figure is already decomposed”.
Influenced by the palette and use of light by Sorolla, David’s paintings beautifully reference the brushstrokes of Velazquez and the abstract interpretations of Gerard Richter in a contemporary new light. He also believes that his work is greatly influenced by the popularisation of photography and the stimuli that we receive daily through advertising and social media. “The strength of my painting, colour saturation and chromatic contrasts are probably the result of the way my mind has adapted to all these images I am exposed to. It is clear that if Leonardo da Vinci had had the technology we have today, he would not have painted as he did in his time”.
When David paints, he is constantly listening to his work;
“It is when the horse takes on its own character and leaves me astonished, it is at that moment when I know that the work is finished, it is not a matter of time but of sensations”.
